Overmolding Services in SG Prototype

What is Overmolding in Prototype?

Overmolding is a secondary process that results in a seamless combination of multiple materials into a single part or product. The frist process are usually Vacuum Casting

Why overmolding?

1. Want to add soft touch appearance and touch to the product.

2. For special products, it can be waterproof, provide electrical insulation function and improve chemical / UV resistance, thus prolonging the product life

3.To add flexible areas to a rigid part.

Here are some examples of typical overmolding applications:

Rubber Over Plastic - First a rigid plastic substrate is molded. Then a soft rubber or TPE is molded onto or around the substrate.

Plastic Over Metal - First a metal substrate is machined, cast or formed. Then, the substrate is inserted into an injection molding tool and the plastic is molded onto or around the

metal.

Overmolding is regularly used to manufacture parts, sub-sections of parts, and for prototype development. To receive a quote or start a discussion about your overmolding project please contact us! SG will show you more profession advice.
