Prototyping Method-Vacuum Casting

Vacuum Casting------For small series with big impact

Vacuum Casting is a casting process for using a vacuum to draw the liquid material into the mold. Means copying technique used for the production of small series of functional plastic parts. Using two-component polyurethanes and silicone molds.

How Does Vacuum Casting Work?

Vacuum Casting begins by producing a master model, typically using 3D Printing or CNC Machining plastic with a high-quality surface finish. Then a silicone mold is produced by casting silicone around the master copy, partially under vacuum to avoid air bubbles. After curing, the silicone mold is cut according to pre-defined parting planes and the master is removed, leaving a cavity to make copies.

Why choose Vacuum Casting?

  1. Money Saving.when quantities limited, its not good at injection modeling or CNC Machining. At this time,Vacuum Casting could be solve this problem. Its a fast way to produce small batch products. As usual each silicone mould could produce 8 or 10 pieces products.

  2. Time Saving.Vacuum Casting is different for Injection modeling. It not need spend 20 working days to make a mould.

  3. Sometimes CNC Machining have some limited. But Vacuum Casting would be solve and produce by Whole-One.Especially for testing function parts.

  4. It could make the material colorful by itself. We would draw the liquid with color into the silicone mould.Color not easy to scratch.

  5. Vacuum Casting also lends itself well to a variety of finishing degrees, and we can match the finish you need for your parts.

Each coin has two sides. That Vacuum casting also has their disadvantage like low tolerance ,color will 85% match with pantone color, etc.

Materials for Vacuum Casting

SG Prototype offer rubber, PP, ABS,PMMA,POM and PC materials. These materials provide an outstanding variety of properties, and offer the possibility to match colors and cast transparent components.
