Prototype Surface Finishing of CD texture

CD texture, also known as ‘concentric circle texture’ or ‘brushed CD texture’, is a kind of radial concentric circle texture processed on the metal parts' surface, such as aluminum, stainless steel, brass, by precision numerical control equipment. Its visual effect is similar to that of a CD disc, with a strong sense of metal texture and dynamic light reflection characteristics. Light can be presented under the flow of luster, significantly enhancing the product's sense of technology and high-end feeling.

The processing of CD texture

To achieve high-quality concentric circle texture cutting effects(CD texture), SG engineer team uses a high-precision CD grinding machine or a CNC lathe equipped with diamond tools for processing. During the cutting process, strictly control the tool angle, spindle speed, and feed rate to prevent burrs from forming. At the same time, a dedicated coolant is used for thorough cooling to control the temperature, prevent thermal deformation of the metal prototype, to ensure uniform and consistent texture.

Why CD texture surface finishing

The CD texture is beautiful and uniform, which can enhance the visual effect of the prototype. And there are different planes of projector to choose from, the most common is circular and radial. Meanwhile, this process causes less damage to the metal surface and does not destroy the internal structure of the material, also improving their wear resistance and scratch resistance. In addition, the surface after CD texture treatment is smooth, making it easy for subsequent processes such as painting and electroplating.

In prototyping industrial, the main purpose of CD texture surface finishing is to truly simulate and verify the visual effect (unique luster and fluidity) and touch (fine matte finish) of this process on the final product, enhance the texture and grade of the prototype, and facilitate design review, customer confirmation, and assembly verification. It is one of the important means to reflect the detailed quality and technological sense of the product.
